How does Tattoo Removal work?
Lasers work by producing short pulses of intense light that pass harmlessly through the top layers of the skin to be selectively absorbed by the tattoo pigment. This laser energy causes the tattoo pigment to fragment into smaller particles that are then removed by the body's immune system. The laser selectively targets the pigment of the tattoo without damaging the surrounding skin, working best on blue and black inks.
How many Tattoo Removal treatments do I need? How long does it take to see full results?
No one can say for certain exactly how many sessions it will take to remove a tattoo. Because everyone's immune system is different and everyone's skin is different, all we can do is give an educated estimation. On average it take 6-12 treatments to remove a professional tattoo and 4-6 treatments to remove amateur tattoos. These numbers can vary depending on a number of factors. Each treatment is 6-8 weeks apart.
How do I prepare for my Tattoo Removal treatment?
No tanning 6 weeks before your treatment. Check all medications and topical creams for photosensitivity and stop those 2 weeks prior to treatment. Avoid NSAIDS and alcohol 2 days before treatment and shave the treatment area the day of your appointment.
How much does Tattoo Removal hurt? What should I expect during my Tattoo Removal procedure?
The unfortunate thing about tattoos is that both getting them and having them removed can be uncomfortable. Everyone's pain tolerance varies but most describe it as a rubber band snap to the skin. We do apply a topical anesthetic cream prior to treatment to make the experience more comfortable. Then pulses of light from the laser are directed onto the tattoo, breaking up the pigment. Pinpoint bleeding may occur. Over the next few weeks, the body's scavenger cells remove pigment residues.
How do I care for it after my Tattoo Removal treatment?
Following the treatment, we will apply an antibacterial ointment and dressing to the area. You will need to keep the treated area clean and covered for five days using an antibiotic ointment. Itching is expected due to the body's immune response. (Don't scratch!) Avoid sun for two weeks and then use a SPF of 30 or higher when needed. Tattoos will begin to fade in 4-6 weeks after treatment.
